The Byrds – Live At The Piper Club, Roma
May 2, 1968
My LP = Bulldog BGLP 022 (Italy 1988) (yellow vinyl)
This rip = my CD = BGCD 022 (Italy 1988)
Roger McGuinn (guitar, vocals)
Chris Hillman (bass, vocals)
Kevin Kelley (drums)
Gram Parsons (keyboards, guitar, vocals)
Doug Dillard (banjo)
These albums were the first releases of this famous concert. But the tape the bootleggers used was too fast running.
Trivia: « B.J. Blues » is credited to “R McGuinn, J York, G. Parsons, C. White”. This, of course, was the line up that first officially released the medley on the “Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde” LP a year later. Gene Parsons, John York and Clarence White weren’t members of the band yet when this concert was recorded. Which makes us wonder why the credits went to these later members, when they knew the correct line up as it is mentioned on the back covers.
Or, maybe one should wonder why the later members were credited on the Dr. Byrds LP when it’s first been performed by these earlier members.

Are there speed corrected versions of this release?
ReplyDeleteTHe Dutch broadcast version has better quality but still isn't what one could expect. It's been posted here earlier.
