The Byrds – Summerthing, Allston 1970
Summerthing, Ringer Playground, Allston, Boston, MA – July 27, 1970
Roger McGuinn (guitar, vocals)
Clarence White (guitar, vocals)
Gene Parsons (drums, harmonica, vocals)
Skip Battin (bass, vocals)
Note: this was engineer Dinky
Dawson’s first concert with the Byrds, and it turned out that due to a
defective PA part (a faulty stereo splitter), the sound was heavily distorted
at times. This nearly cost Dawson his job with the band. One can imagine how
angry McGuinn was at him.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure this would be wonderful but ... three times I've tried FreakShare, enter the "captcha" code, pressed "download", and after a moment the screen offers to upload! Any ideas? I have downloaded successfully from the site many times before so I don't think it's my fault - but it could be! Best wishes, John

ReplyDeleteSuccess! Thanks for your persistance. The second link worked no better than the first but the third was fine, and the site is easier to use than Freakshare. Now to listen!
ReplyDeletePerformance Is Splendid. Thank you RB ! ! !
ReplyDeleteThanks Rockingbyrd!
ReplyDeleteI've now had time to listen to this one and I'm not convinced that it is different from "Summerthing Jamaica Pond" posted here on 24 December 2013. It's been edited differently: for example, on the Jamaica Pond version we hear their (lengthy) preparation to play Well Come Back Home, but that is missing here. For an obviously identical detail, listen to the reference to "old Gene" in the introduction to Willin'. What do you think, RB?
ReplyDeleteHello, could I please get a re-up for this show ? Thanks , Mike
